It was a distinguished honour to welcome Ms Koka Fukushima-sensei, the master instructor of Sogetsu Headquarter in Tokyo, to London in June 2019. While she stayed in London, Fukushima-sensei demonstrated her outstanding artistry as our special instructor during the all-day workshop, which comprised a very successful full-house session.

In the morning session, Fukushima-sensei demonstrated the theme 3-7 “Composition of Straight and Curved Lines (moribana, nageire or without kenzan)”, or 「直線と曲線の構成」in Japanese. This session was followed in the afternoon by the heart of Theme 5-1 “Using Seasonal Plant Materials in England” or「英国の季節をいける」in Japanese.

In England, the summer starts in June, and in my opinion, it is undoubtedly the best season for all flower lovers in this country. Roses are pretty and Peonies are so elegant and so forth. Since I started to take lessons from Mrs Ikuyo M Morrison-sensei in Bedford in England, I realized that all of us, the Sogetsu members and friends in England and Europe, enjoy making amazing gardens but at the same time use the green and flower materials from their own garden to assemble their beautiful Sogetsu Ikebana works.

During the morning session, I was truly drawn into this beautiful and profound world and I utterly enjoyed to see various kinds of seasonal leaves, flowers and branches, transformed into a work of Sogetsu art.

The highlight of the training sessions came when Fukushima-sensei delivered her comments to wrap up the day. She always enlightens us with new ideas, inspiration and guidance together with her sophisticated Sogetsu artistry.

Sogetsu Workshop is open for everyone from beginners to professionals. Sogetsu London Branch will welcome you all at our next workshop.
