The 2019 annual exhibition entitled “YOU IN IKEBANA” 私の花 (see textbook 4 – 20) was undoubtedly one of the best exhibitions the branch has put on so far. The event was opened by Mrs Tsuruoka who was accompanied by her daughter Miss Tsuruoka. Both were very generous with positive comments for the work they saw on display. All the visitors to the exhibition were greeted by a large installation made by Mrs Ikuyo Morrison, the idea of curator Wagner Kreusch, whose expertise in design was seen in the overall format.
The ground floor and basement floor had several Ikebana exhibiting various styles and techniques used within Sogetsu. Many visitors, some of whom travelled from areas distant to London gave expressions of wow from being amazed by the level of skill and creativity they encountered. The theme YOU IN IKEBANA was apt in so much, that exhibitors were freely able to express themselves in their arrangements. All exhibitors were justifiably pleased to have the kind hospitality of the London Flower School as our host.
Following my request, the exhibition was approved as an official event of the Japan-UK Season of Culture 2019-2020 and received publicity from the Embassy of Japan in London amongst other Japanese social media and floral arts interest groups.
